It's 1945, the heyday of the Latécoère 631 flying boat. This is a regularly scheduled Air France transatlantic flight between Port Etienne in Mauritania and Rio de Janiero, Brazil and Montevideo, Uruguay.

The first leg continues south along the west African coastline to Dakar.
